Hark Information

HARK - Hiking and Recreation with Kids is looking for more leaders. HARK is a great opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of those who can most benefit by good mentors and positive experiences. It is a wonderful outreach program that takes at risk kids out for time in the woods. . This is an opportunity to share your love of the outdoors with youth who may not have the advantage of great role models. Training and mentoring is available if you are interested but are not sure you currently possess the skills needed. If you would like more information, contact HARK chair Laura Rightmyer lrightmyer@q.com.
HARK (Hiking & Active Recreation for Kids) is kicking off a great hiking/ recreational season. We will try to keep the kids as active as possible in the great outdoors and sometimes indoors. HARK is open to kids of all ages, though some outings are more appropriate or geared to a certain age group.
HARK is always in need of more great volunteers who must be Mountaineer members and completed a background check. Background forms are available through Laura Rightmyer and are done for free.
May 6, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. Interested persons meeting.
Those we hope to attend are kids, teens, parents, foster parents, grandparents or others interested in volunteering, teaching children about their passions of botany, geology or other outdoor amazement, or those interested in having a group of their children get involved with HARK.
HARK was started by the late Tacoma Mountaineer Jo Backus, whose passion for the outdoors and children began the first HARK program. A grassroots program it was!
Come learn about the exciting outings we will be doing this summer and through the year! There will be day hiking, educational trips, overnight trips (car camp and backpack), swimming, kayaking and more. Parents will be invited to attend activities as we are able. There will be information on appropriate footwear, clothing or usual items needed by participants (which is often just a backpack with lunch and appropriate clothing). We are building up a supply of items that may be needed on trips but that participants may not have, thanks to a generous grant supplied by the Mountaineers Foundation.
So please join us for a fun, informational evening at the historic (and sometimes chilly) Mountaineers cabin in Seabeck. Refreshments and treats will be provided, of course !!
You are invited to bring and share some of your favorite outing photos and stories too! Maybe we will hear of a new trip or two to do. Thank you in advance.
