To participate in Mountaineer sea kayak trips, one must be a graduate of the Mountaineer Basic Sea Kayaking course, have passed an equivalency evaluation, or, be enrolled in a Mountaineer Basic Sea Kayaking course. One must also possess the required equipment and comply with the registration requirements provided in the trip listing, which generally include contacting the trip leader.

Mountaineer members who have not taken the Mountaineers Basic Sea Kayaking course but who have similar training and paddling experience may apply to be evaluated for equivalency. Equivalency candidates will need to demonstrate basic skills -- basic strokes, braces, and re-entries -- and knowledge of navigation and safety. |
